Manchester United boss defends Marcus Rashford’s gametime

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has defended the amount of gametime Marcus Rashford has received under his management. The 20-year-old scored for England during the recent internationals against both Spain and Switzerland and this had brought criticism over Mourinho’s handling of him at Old Trafford.

However, speaking ahead of the Watford game, Mourinho appeared to counteract the criticism by citing that Rashford has played more first-team football with United when compared to other graduates at their respective clubs, he said: “People speaking about his minutes, they are a bit confused. Marcus Rashford is not [Liverpool striker] Dominic Solanke. He’s not [Chelsea midfielder] Ruben Loftus-Cheek. He’s not [Everton forward] Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He’s Marcus Rashford, Manchester United player, with an incredible number of appearances and an incredible number of minutes played at the highest level in the best possible competitions.”

Daley Blind speaks positively about Jose Mourinho

Ajax midfielder Daley Blind has spoken positively about his experience of playing under Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. The Netherlands international spent four seasons with the Old Trafford outfit and out of those, two were spent under the tutelage of the Portuguese tactician with whom he shared a good relationship. Speaking to reporters, he said: “I almost played 150 matches. I won four trophies. I had a very beautiful time. I had many nice moments there. “I am very grateful to the fans. I worked very nice[ly] with Mourinho.”

Blind had barely featured for Mourinho during the course of the previous campaign but he was nevertheless offered the chance to stay for at least another year. However, the Dutchman believed it would be the right choice to extend his professional career elsewhere and the prospect of returning to Ajax was too hard to refuse.

Jose Mourinho hints at Anthony Martial stay next season

Manchester United Jose Mourinho has dropped a huge hint about Anthony Martial’s future by suggesting that the Frenchman could start the league opener against Leicester City next month. The France international is presently with the United squad for their pre-season tour of the United States despite his agent recently suggesting that he could move on from Old Trafford.

Speaking ahead of United’s pre-season opener against Club America, Mourinho said: “Hopefully he [Sanchez] join us later. Because it would be important at least to work with Mata, Alexis, Martial, which we think are the players we have in attack for the start of the season. No Lukaku, no Lingard, no Marcus Rashford, so if Alexis is not working with us for 15 or 20 days it will be very bad.”

Nemanja Matic urges Manchester United to bring in experienced players

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has urged the club’s hierarchy to pursue experienced players during this summer’s transfer window. The Red Devils ended the season trophy less after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final defeat but Matic believes the club can challenge for Premier League and Champions League honours in the future.

He said: “I think we need some players with some experience to bring some more qualities to our team. After that, we can fight for the title and the Champions League also. I think that we have improved. As you know, United last year were sixth. The year before that, fifth. So we improve, we are second. The only team who is better than us this year is Man City. Obviously, they play amazing football. But we are second and we are in the Champions League next year which is the most important thing.”

Manchester United confirm signing of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto

Manchester United have wrapped up the second signing of the summer transfer window with Diogo Dalot arriving from FC Porto for a reported fee of £19.3m. The Portuguese teenager managed just eight appearances at the senior level for Porto but he has done enough in order to earn a long-term deal with United.

“Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club. He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level. In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United,” Mourinho is quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

Manchester United receive boost in striker pursuit

Manchester United have moved one step closer to signing Alvaro Morata after his agent confirmed that the Spaniard does not want another season on the bench.

The Spain international was largely a deputy to Karim Benzema last term after Real Madrid decided to activate the buy-back option to bring him back from Juventus.

Morata celebrated a Champions League and La Liga double with Los Blancos last season despite starting most of his games from the bench. He nevertheless managed 20 goals through the campaign, and he is now eyeing a fresh challenge elsewhere although it would be a crazy decision to part ways with the European champions, he said: “I want to be playing and to be important to the squad, particularly next year when there is the World Cup. But I want to fight for my place here, I would be crazy to leave Real Madrid. I would like to stay.” (more…)

NAVAS CONFIDENT OF REAL MADRID FUTURE

Real Madrid first choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas has responded to rumours that Real Madrid could sign Manchester United keeper and long term target David De Gea this summer when their transfer ban is lifted.

The La Liga giants tried luring the Spaniard but failed to complete the deal due to clerical error in a last minute scramble. There are strong links that Coach Zinedine Zidane fancies the player as well so he could sanction the move.

Navas says he is not concerned with the speculations at Santiago Bernebeu when the club can resume signing players. (more…)

Guardiola quick to make mark at City

After Manchester City’s struggles last season under former manager Manuel Pellegrini, the appointment of Pep Guardiola has quickly renewed confidence at the Etihad, with the former Barcelona and Bayern boss wasting little time in adapting the club to his methods. The two times Champions League winning manager has enforced strict requirements for his squad, and with the Spaniard seemingly not content with his current assets, we can expect to see more activity in the transfer market before the window closes at the end of the month.

Guardiola has initially signed a three-year contract, but has set no time-frame for his departure, despite candidly admitting it won’t be his final job in football. (more…)

ROONEY BEMUSED AT SUBSTITUTION

Wayne Rooney perhaps did not see his substitution coming against Aston Villa and expected himself to go through the game.

He was surprised and distraught at the same time when Van Gaal called for him to be replaced by Jesse Lingard and so were some of the Manchester United supporters as well, after all it was Rooney who paved the way for the goal that gave 1-0 advantage to the Red Devils and eventually gave them the victory too of that same margin in that Villa game.
