The Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has said that there is every possibility that he could leave the club in the summer after being linked with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona over the last few weeks. Mats Hummels has developed himself into one of the best defenders in European football after impressing with Borussia Dortmund in the last two seasons. Even before Borussia Dortmund started winning the league title two years ago, Mats Hummels has been regarded as a quality player. However, his exploits in the Champions League have only gone to increase the interest on the player over the last few weeks.
Both Manchester United and Barcelona have been facing defensive crisis on a number of occasions in the last two seasons. As a result, they have decided to make Mats Hummels their primary transfer target either in the January transfer window or in the summer. Manchester United could replace Nemanja Vidic or Rio Ferdinand with Mats Hummels, while Barcelona will be ideally looking at Mats Hummels as a replacement for Carlos Puyol. The Catalan captain is coming to the end of his illustrious career. He has recently been ruled out for up to 8 weeks after an elbow injury.
“One day, I will say that I am keen on a move. Playing in a new country would be flattering. I have already had offers, which were interesting, but I told myself it wasn’t the right time to leave. There was a reason behind that, as I had extended my contract recently. When a Borussia Dortmund player moves it is not to any club. In the Bundesliga, it would just be about Bayern Munich. In Europe, there are only about four or five clubs that would really interest me,” said the Borussia Dortmund defender in a recent interview.
